Survival Marketing

Hey…You Busy?

It’s feast or famine for everyone in this industry…not just builders. Now that we’ve made it past Thanksgiving, we’re all prepping for the big slowdown that is going to last through the SuperBowl. (This year definitely being slower than most.)

We all have our year end rituals but this year, I’d like to invite you to spend some time doing stuff you’ve probably never had time for before.

Work on your network..your social network, that is.

The act of professional networking sucks…there is no doubt about it. There is something decidely disingenuous about packing people in a room loaded with free booze and business cards with a hope that something of value can be achieved.  Face it, we’ve all been cornered by the loud guy who can’t decide which conversation he wants to dominate while stuffing what seems to be an endless plate of Vienna sausages into his prodigious gullet.

We do the group thing. We have our friends. We have our acquaintances…and then there’s “everyone else”.

Since you’re probably not busy, why not take the time to look into joining some community groups that you care about. Also be sure to work on your LinkedIn, FaceBook or Twitter network as well.

You’re thinking, “Ante, this is stupid…this is for kids…I don’t have TIME to waste on this.”

Yes you do.

Because you’re not marketing to other builders or associates that you see in your regular circles. You’re marketing to regular people who also happen to be neighbors, parents, Browns fans, classic car nuts or oenophiles.

People don’t think about “houses” all day (only you do that). They think about their interests…and just like you, they look to a friend or an acquaintance when it comes to finding a good bottle of wine, car parts or building or remodeling services (or web sites for that matter).

Be that guy in their network.
