Why Tweet?
Q: People keep telling me I need to get on Twitter. What’s the point? – Anonymous
A: Twitter has been described as a lot of things but consider it your own customized friend feed.
Social media sites/services like twitter expect that you’ll use it as a tool to connect, not a tool to blatantly market.
There is no hard and fast rule on how to use twitter. It is what you make of it. Create your account and lurk for a while til you figure out what’s going on. Build your network, reconnect with old pals and tweet away.
Instead of using it as a resource to broadcast your message, use it to collect information that’s important to you. You can follow other builders, associations, trade partners, suppliers and government agencies to stay on top of news, events & promotions.
Seriously – once you get over the novelty of it, you’ll spend five minutes a day to scan the feed for important news or tips.
Be sure to go grab your user name quickly too. It’s free and will take less than a minute. Go do it now at www.twitter.com and be sure to follow me @aflmarketing!

I ran across this video on YouTube which was developed by Perry Belcher, a guy I follow on Twitter. Great explanation of how and why you should use social media to build your customer base. This IS WORTH 10 minutes of your time. Enjoy.
